Paul Sarkis
Bio
Born and raised in New York, Paul is a multidisciplinary artist who now divides his time between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, California. He shares his life with his wife Karin, a little dog named Guinness, and a cat named after Janis Joplin.
Paul’s artistic journey has been profoundly influenced by the vibrant hues and dynamic light of the desert landscape, which serve as the primary inspiration for his contemporary geometric abstractions and color field paintings. His work is rooted in the California hard-edge style of the 1960s, characterized by sharp, defined geometric shapes and a bold, midcentury modern color palette. These elements are harmoniously combined to create original paintings and prints that resonate with both the natural environment and the aesthetic principles of modern design.
In addition to his painting, Paul is an accomplished photographer whose work has been exhibited internationally and is part of several museum and private collections. His photographic practice complements his painting, bringing a unique perspective to his compositions and an acute sensitivity to light and color. Between his photography projects, Paul enjoys portrait work, translating the changing desert light into striking, emotive canvases.
A member of the International Cinematographer’s Guild IATSE Local 600, Paul works locally in both Los Angeles and Palm Springs, contributing his expertise to various visual projects. His commitment to collaboration is evident in his openness to commissions, working closely with clients and designers to create bespoke pieces that enhance and complement any space. Paul’s art is not only a visual statement but also an integral part of contemporary interior design, bridging the gap between art and the environments it inhabits.
